Helping Homeowners Navigate Design with Clarity and Creativity
James is a residential architect with over 15 years of experience. He helps homeowners create well-designed, characterful homes across London and the South East. From complex planning restrictions to exploring creative layout solutions, James makes the renovation journey feel clear, calm, and collaborative.
From Listed Buildings to Inner-City Projects
James began his career working on Listed Buildings and properties within Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in and around Guildford. This early experience gave him a deep respect for traditional architecture, and a strong grasp of how to work within sensitive planning contexts.
For the last decade, he’s focused on inner London homes. Renovating and extending everything from compact Victorian terraces to more ambitious family homes in and around East London. He brings both local knowledge and personal insight to every project.
Fast Ideas, Thoughtful Design
James is known for his ability to translate ideas into hand-drawn sketches – quickly, clearly, and with the homeowner’s brief always front and centre. His technical knowledge and design intuition help clients explore what’s possible efficiently and cost-effectively, right from the start.
Supporting Clients Through Every Step
When the project calls for it, James enjoys seeing a design through from first ideas to final build – guiding clients through each stage with steady support, clear communication, and a focus on getting the job done well.
He has been part of the Architect Your Home team since 2010. He studied architecture at Newcastle University and Kingston University.
A Love of Architecture, Music, and (Occasionally) Roses
James finds inspiration in the work of architects like Peter Barber and Erich Mendelsohn – designers who brought imagination, social value, and a sense of character to their buildings.
When not working, he’s often in the garden, playing guitar, or walking Poirot, his Bedlington Whippet. He lives with his wife Geraldine in Catford and believes in balancing a thoughtful life with getting the job done properly.
“In life, I like to stop and smell the roses. In work, I’m all about getting the job done – and done well.”
